Director Arnel Eustacio M. Angeles is the Director of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, he is also the Executive Director of the DRRM Council of the City of Manila. Dir. Angeles previously served as the Vice President of the Liga ng mga Barangay and is also a fire volunteer at heart. He became the Director of the MDRRMO last 2019 by which he immediately assumed in office soaring high with lively and positive approach in the field of DRRM.
Being a fire volunteer and a citizen who grew up in the street of the City of Manila, he is used to the environment and the terrain of Manila by which it also helped him respond efficiently, and effectively on any emergency that transpired within the city’s jurisdiction. His management skills have been tested in the year 2020 where major disasters took place, starting in the Taal Volcano Eruption. The MDRRMO team have been directed to help and assist the victims of the eruption in the province of Batangas.
The COVID19 which also peaked at the 2020, tested the resiliency of the City of Manila as well as the capacity of the MDRRMO to handle what we call as the, unplanned disaster wherein there are no existing contingency plans in place for the city. Under dir. Angeles’, the MDRRMO team tirelessly working 24/7 to cater all the needs of the COVID19 patients.
In midst of the pandemic, Dir. Angeles found a way to immediately bounce back and formulate plans that will make the city of Manila a resilient and smart city. In just one year, the MDRRMO has formulated six (6) plans specifically the DRRM Plan, Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment, EOC Manual, Contingency Plans, Local Climate Change Action Plan, and Emergency Operations Plan, through the Research and Planning Division of the MDRRMO.
